A few days ago, a friend drunkenly asked me on the phone about my thoughts regarding the fact that SOPOR's new soundtrack album "THE DEAD HAVE COME" is entirely instrumental. I can't remember how exactly he worded it, but essentially he wanted to know, whether I still liked it ... and my answer was:
"Yes, I do. Very much so!"
One of the reasons why I like the new album so much is because for the first in ... well, ever ... I can actually listen to my own music. -- I mean, yes, I obviously have listened to SOPOR's other albums in the past, but really only in that rather short period of time between the completion of a new record and its physical release. It's not that I don't like my past albums -- well, maybe with the possible exception of literally everything that happened before "DEAD LOVERS' SARABANDE" that is (ha!) --, but ... you know ... they are not exactly easy to digest; and I could never listen to them "just for fun" or as mere background music. Even if the lyrics may seem silly or "neutral", they do have meaning ... and whenever I put on a SOPOR track, it always demands my undivided attention ... ... And then it's never just one track either, even when that was all I intially wanted to check. Once the track has ended, I often have to listen to the entire album all the way through (sometimes even the albums that came before and/or after) ... and that is always exhausting ... because when I listen to it, I remember it ... and when I remember it, I relive it (in my head) ... and that is just not fun.
Technically, this is true for all the music that I own (including other people's music), because everything had/has its "time", and there are memories connected to all of it. Of course, this sort of thing is experienced by every human being with a brain and a heart. -- It's just ... things hit differently, when it is your own art.
Oh, hey ... that rhymed.
So, yes ... I really do enjoy the new album very much. It's ... comforting. :)
P.S.: Yes, I know ... this isn't much of a blog entry. I really just wanted an excuse to post a picture of and a link to the VHS-cassettes above.
