Initially, this A6-flyer was supposed to be included with the vinyl edition of the album "THE DEAD HAVE COME", as well as the DoubleFeature-CD-edition. But then I thought it was superfluous, so I didn't put it in. Not that it would have made much of a difference anyway.
This is such a stupidly dull topic. But, OK...
So, the question that keeps popping up is: "why did Anna-Varney use A.I. for the artwork of the album 'THE DEAD HAVE COME' ?", and the short answer is: I didn't. It was the other way round.
One afternoon in 2023, I was playing around with generative A.I., most likely because I was (more or less unconsciously) trying to avoid working on other things. But I also wanted to see, if I could do anything "fun" with it. -- At first, everything looked like crap, but eventually I got lucky, when the engine generated an image of which I thought: "Hmm, maybe I could turn this into a poster". So, I worked on it for quite a while, until I liked it enough to think: "Damn, I wish this movie actually existed!". But since it obviously didn't, I created the general story in my head instead, because, in that moment, my imagination was inspired by the image before me (and the inner turmoil that had led me to write the prompt for it in the first place). Over the next few weeks I sporadically returned to the A.I., to see, if I could get more "stills" for "my movie" out of it. It took a while, but eventually I had a few. -- At this point, consciously, this was all just for my own amusement (or so I thought).
At the time, I was working on another album of a different title. I had already finished the coverart (the traditional, old-school way), but I just could not find access to the music/lyrics. In my head, there was only anxiety and depression, and I did NOT want the album to be like that. But when it became clear, that I just could not put a "positive" spin on any of it, I looked for something else I could do instead, to get out of this cycle. So I started writing the music/soundtrack for the movie in my head, with its posters and stills that I already had.
There. That's how it happened. Now you know.
I have no further interest in generative A.I. (in case you were worried).
In fact, it gets on my nerves quite a bit now. It was fine for a minute, but I am done with it. -- Though, that being said, back then, I did create a few more images for yet another imaginary movie, which I may or may not compose the soundtrack for in the future. If/when I do, and that same question comes up again, I will simply direct people to THIS blog entry here (yes, the one that you have just read).
And now I need tea...
